Start ridesharing today and save!

Ridesharing is more than carpooling and vanpooling. It is bicycling, walking and taking transit and part of the growing movement toward active transportation. With so many options, commuters don’t have to drive alone anymore. Be part of the solution and stop being traffic!

Carpooling is when two or more people ride to reduce the stress of fighting traffic everyday and save thousands of dollars a year on car maintenance, wear and tear and gasoline. Carpoolers not only save trips to the gas pump – they can also cruise past traffic in carpool lanes where, on average, commuters save 36 minutes a day. Get to where you need to go even faster on LA’s ExpressLanes for free.

Vanpooling is another convenient, reliable and economical way to get to work. Vanpoolers save as much as 70 percent in commute costs compared to those who drive alone. Several Southern California Vanpool Programs make vanpooling even more affordable by providing reductions in vanpool lease costs or other subsidies for starting up a new vanpool.

Bicycling and walking offer healthy and green alternatives to driving alone. If your job is too far, maybe consider bicycling or walking to meet your carpool or to your nearest bus stop or train station. Public transit options get better every day with improved and faster service, taking a bus or riding a train is a smart way to get to work.

To find a carpool or vanpool, bike buddy or to get transit information simply use Southern California’s online ride matching service, provided by ridematch.info. Or call 511 and say “Rideshare” or “Commuter Services” to find the ridesharing option that works for you.

 EMPLOYER
PROGRAMS

Whether your company needs to comply with air quality regulations or you simply want to learn about commute options for your work site, 511 can link you to programs that will help your employees find a better commute to work.

Need help encouraging your employees to find a better commute? Keep current on commuting news with CommuteSmart News, the monthly magazine that provides rideshare marketing tips and an employee newsletter you can use at your business.

Regional Guaranteed Ride Home Program

One of the most common concerns shared by commuters is being stranded without access to a car. The Regional Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program helps alleviate this concern by providing employees who rideshare to work with a reimbursed ride home in the event of a valid emergency. GRH is a free benefit offered to enrolled employers and their employees who carpool, vanpool, take transit, bicycle, or walk to work. Employers who have signed up to participate in the Regional GRH Program can confidently encourage employees to leave their cars at home and rideshare to work.

Additional GRH Program Information

Los Angeles County

Employers can offer special programs to their employees and help them get to work faster and happier. In doing so, employers can help themselves by meeting air quality standards, receiving tax deductions, resolving parking issues and having a more satisfied workforce. Metro Rideshare/Shared Mobility is committed to providing support to employers, large and small, in LA County.

Resources include sustainability programs, employee incentive information, guaranteed ride home programs, and discounted Metro TAP passes are all available.

To get started, call 213.922.2811 or visit Metro Rideshare for more information.

Orange County

Regardless of your company’s size, OCTA offers programs and services that can help you get your employees to work on time for less money. Together, we can keep Orange County businesses moving.

Employers with 10 or more Metrolink riders can participate in the Corporate Partner Program (CPP). Many employers offer these passes as a benefit or incentive by subsidizing all or part of the amount. Employers can set up flexible spending accounts for this transit expense. This program helps employers comply with SCAQMD requirements and offers a possible reduction in payroll taxes.

For vanpools, OCTA offers $400 worth of assistance per month per vanpool for those with worksites in Orange County. This covers roughly 30-50% of the monthly lease cost. Employers who actively participate in the VanpoolE-PassAVR Processing, or Metrolink Corporate Programs are eligible to participate in the Guaranteed Ride Home Program.

For more information or to get a program started at your workplace, call 714.560.6282, email sharetheride@octa.net or visit OCTA's Share the Ride Programs.

Ventura County

Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) Commuter Services helps employers develop, maintain, and promote ridesharing through informational materials and support at no cost.

Ventura County employers with 100 or more employees must comply with the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District’s Rule 211. Many employers establish their Average Vehicle Ridership (AVR) with the assistance of VCTC’s survey. The survey is available in both hardcopy and electronic formats. Once you’ve administered the survey, VCTC will process your surveys and calculate results.  You’ll receive:

  • RideGuides for your employees that requested customized carpool/vanpool information.
  • RideSmart Tips for all employees.
  • Automatic Guaranteed Ride Home Program registration for all employees that respond.
  • Your AVR report filed directly with the APCD.

For more information, contact a VCTC Commuter Services representative at (805) 642-1591 ext. 119 or email aholmes@goventura.org.

Additionally, VCTC Commuter Services offers a Guaranteed Ride Home program that serves as a commute safety net for your employees.
