Dial-A-Ride ServicesSeveral local cities provide Dial-A-Ride services for Senior and disabled residents. Contact your city to learn more about Dial-A-Ride services and eligibility requirements. ADA Paratransit ServicesIf you are unable to ride a regular bus or train due to disability, you might be a candidate for paratransit service required by Americans with Disabilities Act. It is a parallel service to bus and train routes in Southern California. Paratransit services operate in the same area, on the same days and during the same hours as bus and train routes. Los Angeles CountyAccess ServicesAccess Services is responsible for the administration of Access - the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) mandated paratransit program for Los Angeles County. 511 supports the following Access Services features (click a button to select the feature): Eligibility for Access is based on the person with a disability's ability to use accessible buses and trains in Los Angeles County, not solely based on the disability, age, or medical diagnosis. It is determined through an in-person Transit Evaluation. Plan a trip using free-fare transit partners.In order to participate in the Free Fare program, you must be an eligible Access Services customer. For more information on becoming an Access customer, please visit their website at http://www.asila.org. Determine if an address (origin and/or destination) is in the Access Services area. Identify Dial-A-Ride options within a city, other than the Access Services agency. For additional help on these service features, visit the Los Angeles County Access FAQs. For Access Services paratransit eligibility call Access Customer Service at 800.827.0829, TTY 800.827.1359. LACTOA Disabled TAP ID CardTransit agencies in Los Angeles County also offer discounted bus and rail fares for disabled riders. The Los Angeles County Transit Operators Association (LACTOA) Disabled TAP Identification Card Program makes it easier for qualified riders with disabilities to demonstrate eligibility for reduced fares on all Los Angeles County transit operators (except paratransit/Dial-a- Ride services). To obtain your LACTOA Disabled TAP ID Card, provide proof of eligibility or a Medicare card. Completed applications, a full-face photo, required documentation and a $2.00 processing fee can be submitted at any Metro Customer Center or mailed to Metro Reduced Fare Office, One Gateway Plaza, M.S. 99-PL-4, Los Angeles, CA 90012-2952. Get an application online: English | Spanish Orange CountyOrange County’s specialized transit services are provided by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA). OC ACCESS, formally known as OCTA ACCESS, is shared-ride service for people who are unable to use the regular, fixed-route OC Bus service because of functional limitations caused by a disability. These passengers must be certified by OCTA to use the OC ACCESS system by meeting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) eligibility criteria. Call 877-OCTA-ADA (877-628-2232) to request a ride. For TDD, call (800) 564-4232 during ACCESS reservation hours. As a reminder, have the ride information ready at the time the call is made. Record and confirm the information provided by the reservation operator. ACCESS service is available during the days, hours, and service areas similar to those of fixed-route bus service. Please call ACCESS Reservations for service hours in your area. OCTA requires an individual to schedule a ride at least one day prior to the day of travel. However, rides may be scheduled up to 3 days in advance. ACCESS requests are taken 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. Riverside CountyRiverside County’s Dial-A-Ride services are provided by Riverside Transit Agency (RTA). Dial-A-Ride is an origin-to-destination advanced reservation transportation service for seniors and persons with disabilities. Dial-A-Ride vehicles travel to areas within three-quarters of a mile of an RTA local fixed route. Dial-A-Ride service is provided at times equivalent to local fixed-route bus service in that area. RTA has three types of Dial-A-Ride services:
ADA Priority Dial-A-Ride ServiceRTA gives priority service to individuals who are certified under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Persons who are ADA certified are eligible for trips throughout the RTA service area that are within three-quarters of a mile of local fixed-route bus service and during the hours of bus service operation. Individuals who are ADA certified are eligible to bring a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) at no cost if your ADA card permits. A companion or child may come along only if space is available and will be required to pay a fare. Before you can schedule a trip on ADA priority service you must first apply and be certified for the service. Complete an application and have your physician or licensed professional complete a Healthcare Professional Verification Form. Senior/Disabled Dial-A-Ride ServiceSeniors age 65 and above and persons with disabilities are eligible for local Dial-A-Ride service within a single city and within three-quarters of a mile of local fixed-route bus service and during the hours of bus service operation. Transportation is provided only within the city in which your trip begins. Companions may come along if space permits and if they are a senior or a person with a disability. Companions will be required to pay a fare. Children are not eligible to ride along on the Senior/Disabled Dial-A-Ride service. To schedule a ride on local Senior/Disabled Dial-A-Ride service, simply call 1-800-795-7887 and book your trip. No application is required. On your first trip only, you will be required to present proof of disability or age eligibility at the pick-up location. Dial-A-Ride PlusIn an effort to provide greater access to lifeline services for those who have no other transportation options, Riverside Transit Agency introduced a new pilot program, Dial-A-Ride Plus Lifeline Service, on July 1, 2015. The program restricts eligible trips to lifeline services such as dialysis and chemotherapy services, doctor’s appointments and trips to the grocery store and senior centers for daily hot meals to ensure everyone has access to food. The program provides trips within an additional two-mile radius (for a total of 2¾ miles) of the fixed route boundary. Passenger fares will be identical to those charged for traditional DAR service. Eligible participants must be 65 or older or must have a disability that creates a need for specialized transportation. Service will be provided using wheelchair accessible taxis, currently being utilized under the Agency’s taxi overflow services contract. Ventura CountyVentura County’s specialized transit services are provided by the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC). VCTC operates Access paratransit service for disabled people who cannot ride regular fixed-route bus services and for Seniors 60 and older. Seniors qualify for reduced fares on bus and train services throughout Southern California. Transit providers in the region have different age standards for Senior fare qualification, mostly ranging from 60 to 65 and older. Check with your Transit Provider for more information. To date, 18 cities participate in the SMP including Aliso Viejo, Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Dana Point, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, La Habra, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster and Yorba Linda. Park & Ride lots provide a convenient place to park for easy connection with your carpool, vanpool, bus or train. They're usually free, although occasionally permits or fees may be required. Los Angeles CountyThe Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has more than 100 convenient Park & Ride locations countywide. Most Park & Ride lots in LA County are free. Some offer reserved spaces for a fee, while a few others have paid parking only. Orange CountyCalTrans and the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) provide a total of 17 convenient Park & Ride locations countywide with more than 2,000 parking spaces.
